New Study Proves the Obvious: Mondays Stink

You're not alone if you simply can’t get into the work routine post-weekend.

A new study from the folks that make Marmite proves what many of us in the 9-to-5 world already know: Mondays are awful. The study showed things are so bad on Monday that the average person won’t even crack a smile until 11:16am. That truly is a bad day if you’re not smiling until nearly lunchtime.

The Monday blues are so debilitating, half the people will show up late (just blame traffic) to work and those between the ages of 45-to-54 years-old will moan for 12 minutes. Though I don’t yet fall into that age group, I do find myself in a state of agony anytime I am woken up by the alarm clock. It could be bad sleep rhythms (this site is supposed to help), but I chalk it up to not being a morning person.

Despite being sponsored by the makers of Marmite (a “sticky, dark brown paste with a distinctive, powerful flavor,” for those that don’t know), the top five ways for busting out of the Monday slump amazingly don’t include eating Marmite. The Monday blues busters are: watching TV, sex (not a recommended at-work activity), online shopping, buying chocolate or make-up, and planning a vacation.

If they had published one more, the sixth option would have been reading this blog.

Happy Monday!

[...] Mondays always seem to come so fast. Before we know it, the excitement we had on Friday afternoon for the weekend is a distant memory when we wake to head back to the office for Monday morning.  If you are like the majority of humanity, you can probably count on having a few (or maybe even a ton) of meetings in the week ahead. Can you imagine if every meeting you attended this week was productive, purpose-driven, even enjoyable and you walked out of every meeting feeling as if each one was a great use of your time and energy?  However, we all know that this is not always the case. Meetings can be anxiety producing, unproductive, and sometimes even annoying.  You feel as if your time and talent is being wasted!  But it is a new year and it’s time for a fresh start as it relates to meetings and Monday mornings! It’s Monday Morning will be an ongoing series of tips and tricks to help improve our skills at the meetings we lead and hopefully improve our mood at the meetings we attend!
